The line between Harlech and Pwllheli has fully re-opened today, Monday 1 September, and the normal train service has resumed.

Work on constructing the railway side of the new Pont Briwet road and railway viaduct has been completed, and the safety checks of the new line have been successful.

Engineering work is taking place between Cardiff Central and barry Island / Penarth, affecting the following trains:

  • 21:54 Aberdare to Penarth will be replaced by a bus between Cardiff Central and Penarth
  • 22:42 Bridgend to Cardiff Central will be diverted via Pontyclun, a replacement bus will run from Bridgend to Cardiff Central
  • 23:14 Radyr to Barry Island will be replaced by a bus from Cardiff Central to Barry Island
  • 23:26 Penarth to Cardiff Central will be replaced by a bus throughout
  • 05:16 (Tue-Fri) Barry Island to Caerphilly to start from Cardiff Central. There will be no alternative transport from Barry Island to cardiff Central.

 

Engineering work is taking place between Severn Tunnel Junction and Gloucester affecting the following trains:

  • 20:15 and 22:15 Maesteg to Cheltenham Spa will be replaced by a bus between Newport and Cheltenham Spa
  • 23:00 Cheltenham Spa to Cardiff Central will be replaced by a bus throughout
  • 05:50 (Tue-Fri) Gloucester to Cardiff Central will start from Chepstow. Passengers at Gloucester and Lydney should travel on the next CrossCountry service.

Monday only

  • 00:50 London Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour. This train will not stop at Havant. A bus will run from Fratton to Havant. Journey times are likely to be extended by at least 50 minutes

Monday to Thursday    

  • 22:05 and 22:35 London Waterloo to Poole services. These trains will terminate at Bournemouth and replaced by buses between Bournemouth and Poole  
  • 23:05 London Waterloo to Poole. This train terminates at Southampton Central and is replaced by a bus between Southampton Central and Poole

Tuesday to Friday

  • 00:05 London Waterloo to Bournemouth. This train terminates at Southampton Central and is replaced by a bus between Southampton Central and Bournemouth
  • 00:42 London Waterloo to Strawberry Hill (via Wimbledon). This train will be diverted via Richmond. A bus will run from London Waterloo to Strawberry Hill (via Wimbledon) 
  • 01:05 London Waterloo to Southampton Central. This train will not stop at Wimbledon or Surbiton. A bus will run from London Waterloo to Surbiton
  • 04:25 Guildford to London Waterloo. This train will not stop at Surbiton or Wimbledon. A bus will run earlier from Guildford to Clapham Junction

Refurbishment of Selby Swing Bridge from Sunday 27 July until Sunday 7 September 2014

Description

Selby Swing Bridge was built in 1889 and carries the railway over the River Ouse.

Between Sunday 27 July and Sunday 07 September 2014, Network Rail will be carrying out refurbishment work on the bridge costing £8 million pounds. Once the work is completed the structure should be maintenance free for 25 years and will enable trains to run at the normal line speed, removing a long standing speed restriction.

During this period of time no trains will be able to run between Selby and Hull.

First TransPennine and Northern Rail services are replaced by buses between Selby and Hull.

East Coast services are diverted between Doncaster and Hull via Goole. Buses will run between Doncaster and Selby.

First Hull Trains services are diverted between Doncaster and Hull calling additionally at Goole. Buses will run between Selby and  Howden / Goole.

Buses replace trains between Oxford and Bicester Town until Summer 2015

Description

Chiltern Railways in partnership with Network Rail, are investing £130 million in building a new rail link between Oxford and London Marylebone.

This will include:

  • Laying almost a mile of new track between Bicester Town to just south of Bicester North to join the main line between Birmingham and London Marylebone
  • Renewal of existing track and signalling equipment 
  • A new station between Oxford and Islip called Oxford Parkway

From summer 2015 Chiltern Railways will introduce a new service between London Marylebone and Oxford Parkway.

From spring 2016 these services will begin to run from the centre of Oxford.

To allow this improvement work to take place the line between Oxford and Bicester Town will be closed until summer 2015, as a result buses will replace trains between Oxford and Bicester Town.

This engineering work is associated with the London Crossrail project.

As a result of this works the last trains to call at Hanwell are:

  • 21:03 London Paddington to Heathrow Airport T123
  • 21:27 Heathrow Airport T123 to London Paddington

 

Customers are advised to travel by train to and from Ealing Broadway and use bus services 427, 207, E8 or 83 as replacements for withdrawn train services. Customers travelling to Hanwell from Reading and Intermediate stations are advised to alight at Southall. Bus service 195 from the station front runs regularly between Southall High Street and Hanwell.

The last trains to call at West Ealing are:

  • 21:46 Greenford to London Paddington
  • 21:15 London Paddington to Greenford

 

Customers are advised to travel by train to and from Ealing Broadway and use bus services 427, 207, E8 or 83 as replacements for withdrawn train services.

The last trains to call at Acton Main Line are:

  • 21:42 London Paddington to Reading
  • 23:24 Heathrow Airport T5 to London Paddington

 

Customers are advised to travel to North Acton Underground station via Ealing Broadway on the Central Line and use bus 266 as a replacement for withdrawn train services.

Alternatively Customers travelling from London after 21:48 to Acton Main Line can also travel on the 21:57 and 23.00 Reading services to Ealing Broadway and take the 22:17 and 23:30 London Paddington services to Acton Mainline.

Tickets are valid for this alternative route for TfL Buses and London Underground.

Heathrow Express services are not affected by this engineering work.
