Description

In 2007, Network Rail started the £6.5 billion Thameslink Programme. When completed in 2018, trains will run every 2-3 minutes in each direction through central London at the busiest times.

With new track and new spacious trains, which will be longer and more energy-efficient, more reliable journeys will be possible with direct links to three major airports (Gatwick, Heathrow and Luton) and St Pancras International.

Work has already started on rebuilding London Bridge station. When completed, London Bridge will have more through and longer platforms and a bigger concourse to cope with the 54 million passengers that go through each year.

Between Saturday 23 August and Sunday 31 August, part of London Bridge station will be closed and no First Capital Connect or Southern services will be calling at London Bridge. Southeastern services will be able to call as normal.

This will also affect Southern services to and from London Victoria and some other Southern routes, where an alternative timetable is running on most routes.

During this phase, Train Operating Companies are working together to minimise the inconvenience to passengers. Further information is available from First Capital Connect, Southern, Southeastern, Transport for London and the Thameslink Programme websites. This will also highlight where alternative routes can be taken and any ticket acceptance that is in place.
