What should I do in case of a train strike?

Last updated:2025/12/22

Train strikes occasionally occur in some European countries and are usually announced a few days in advance. Please consider the following points:

| Check whether it actually affects your travel plans

Strikes do not always result in a complete shutdown. Canceled trains are usually announced in advance. Check the official railway website or real-time timetables.

| Confirm alternative options

During strikes, some train services may still operate, or you may be able to take buses or other transport options. It is recommended to check with your accommodation or local tourist information offices.

Handling depends on the type of ticket purchased:

Point-to-point (specific train) tickets:

  • You can inquire at the train station counter, and they usually assist with transferring to another train.
  • If you purchased tickets through GoByTrain, we will follow the alternative options provided by the international supplier and assist you with exchanging tickets or applying for a refund.

For train pass users:

  • You can adjust your itinerary or take other available trains.
  • If a reserved train cannot be taken due to a strike, and reservations are non-refundable or non-changeable, it is recommended to inquire at the station. In most cases, you will be allowed to take another train, but you may not have the original reserved seat.
