| General Rules (common across most European railways)
- Number of items: Usually recommended to bring no more than 2 large pieces of luggage + 1 small hand bag. Bringing too many items can make it difficult to move around.
- Suggested size: Similar to airline checked baggage size (approx. 85 x 55 x 35 cm).
- Weight limit: No strict rules, but you must be able to lift and place your luggage by yourself.
- Placement: Luggage can be stored on racks inside the carriage, overhead shelves, or in the space between two seat rows.
| Important Notes
Low-cost train operators (e.g. OUIGO, Avlo)
The cheapest fare categories may not include large luggage, allowing only one small hand bag (such as a backpack).
If you need to bring large luggage, you must purchase an add-on. Always check the fare conditions when booking to avoid extra charges or being denied boarding.
Night trains (e.g. Nightjet, Intercités de nuit)
Space is limited. It’s best to travel light and bring smaller bags.
Self-handling
European train stations usually do not provide luggage check-in or porter services. Choose luggage that is easy to carry or roll by yourself.
