IC Notte Sicily Rome

This is the Intercity Notte sleeper train in Italy: departing from Rome, boarding at night, and arriving directly the next morning in Palermo, Taormina, Cefalu, or Catania. No need to get up early to catch a flight or book an extra night's hotel; the travel time is actually more efficient.

This is a manual issuance process; any price difference will be settled — refunded or charged — before the ticket is issued.

The unique part: at Villa San Giovanni, the train splits into sections and rolls directly onto a ferry to cross the Strait of Messina. Sleeper passengers can stay in their cabin the whole time, luggage included — or step up on deck for coffee and sea views on the roughly 20-minute crossing.

Onboard Amenities

Full bedding — sheets, pillow, duvet, towel — is provided. Relax cabins also include a small toiletry kit and bottled water. A light breakfast (coffee, juice, snacks) is served in the morning.

Luggage

No weight or size limit. Store bags on the overhead rack, the end-of-carriage shelf, or the cabinet above your berth.

Good to Know

There's no dining car, so pick up food at the station before boarding. Delays of one to two hours are common on the southern leg, so build in some buffer time.
