Why Choose Havila Voyages?
Expand
There are many different vessels operating along Norway’s fjord routes, butHavila Voyages stands out for its modern ships, quieter sailing experience, environmentally conscious technology, and Nordic design. Here, the journey is more than simply getting from one destination to another—it is part of the experience itself.
🛳️ A New Generation of Ships Havila’s fleet has been introduced progressively since 2021, featuring modern ships designed around the needs of today’s travelers. From the layout to the public spaces, the ships offer a comfortable and bright environment compared with some of the older vessels traditionally operating along the coast.
🌿 A More Sustainable Way to Sail Havila useshybrid propulsion and large battery systems, allowing the ships to operate on electric power on suitable stretches of the route. This helps reduce fuel consumption and emissions while also lowering noise levels, creating a more peaceful way to experience Norway’s pristine fjords.
🔇 A Quiet and Relaxing Fjord Experience Compared with larger cruise ships, which often focus more on entertainment and onboard activities, Havila places greater emphasis on the scenery and the journey itself. The quieter atmosphere makes it easy to sit back, watch the fjords go by, and enjoy a more relaxed pace of travel.
🏔️ Nordic-Inspired Design The interiors feature a clean, natural Nordic aesthetic, with large windows and comfortable shared spaces that bring the scenery indoors. Even when relaxing inside, travelers can enjoy views of the mountains, fjords, and coastal villages along the route.
🍽️ À la Carte Dining Unlike the buffet-style dining commonly found on traditional cruise ships, Havila primarily offers à la carte dining, with dishes prepared to order. This creates a more restaurant-like dining experience while also helping reduce food waste associated with large buffet operations.
✨ More Than Just a Cruise Havila is chosen for this journey because it makes the sailing itself part of the Norwegian travel experience. With modern ships, a quieter atmosphere, Nordic design, and a strong focus on sustainability, travelers can slow down and experience the spectacular Norwegian coastline in a more comfortable and immersive way.
Who Is a Havila Cruise Best For?
First-time visitors to Norway who want to see the highlights in one trip:
One journey connects the fjords, Lofoten Islands, North Cape and Arctic Circle, without the need for frequent transfers or moving luggage from place to place.
Travellers who prefer to skip the entertainment of large cruise ships:
There are no casinos or large-scale shows, so the focus stays on the ever-changing scenery of Norway outside the windows.
Travellers who value comfortable accommodation and quality dining:
New-generation ships, comfortable cabins and à la carte breakfast, lunch and dinner make it easy to enjoy a comfortable stay and good food throughout the journey.
Travellers looking for a different way to explore Norway:
Wake up to new coastal scenery each day without changing hotels, with the option to add shore excursions for a closer look at each destination.
What Do Travellers Say About Havila?
“Rather than taking a ship to see the scenery, the scenery follows you along the way.”
Travellers who have sailed with Havila often mention the new ships, comfortable cabins and spacious public areas. Many also enjoy the observation areas, where they can sit by the windows and watch fjords, mountains and fishing villages pass by. Meals are served à la carte, so there is no need to carry a plate back and forth at a buffet, making mealtimes more relaxed. Unlike traditional large cruise ships, Havila places less emphasis on onboard entertainment and more on the coastal scenery and the journey itself.

Restaurants
Three distinct dining venues aboard: Havrand Restaurant, the full-board main dining room with a daily-changing menu; Hildring Fine Dining, an intimate five-course tasting menu (optional, extra charge); and Havly Café, open from morning until late night with pizza, burgers, and creamy fish soup. Whether you like a set mealtime or grazing on your own schedule, there's a spot for it.
Havblikk Bar & Lounge
Perched on Deck 9, this panoramic bar wraps the fjord scenery in floor-to-ceiling windows. By day it's bright and airy — ideal for reading or simply watching the coast drift by; by evening the lighting softens into a quieter, more intimate mood, and on summer sailings the midnight sun bathes the whole room in soft gold. Havblikk offers an international and local drink selection, snacks, and board games — a great place to settle in with a glass of wine. The name "havblikk" refers to those rare moments when the sea turns glass-smooth and still, the very feeling the space is designed to capture.
Bow Lounge
Tucked at the bow on Deck 6, this space does double duty: a children's play corner by day, and one of the few rooms on the ship without sweeping floor-to-ceiling windows — which makes it feel cozier and more intimate come evening. A good spot to sink into a sofa after dinner and quietly close out the day's sailing.
Laundry
Located on Decks 4 and 5, with three washing machines that automatically dispense soap, three dryers, and ironing equipment — handy for keeping up with laundry on a longer voyage and packing a little lighter.
Jacuzzi
Located on outdoor Deck 8, open 06:00–24:00 — soak while taking in the fjord views. For safety reasons, the hot tubs are off-limits outside opening hours, and drinks aren't permitted in the water.
Gym Two fitness rooms on Deck 7, equipped with treadmills, rowing machines, exercise bikes, and a range of weights, all with sea views — work out with the coastline scrolling past the window.
Havila Shop
On Deck 6, stocking toiletries, basic pharmacy items, and practical clothing for excursions, alongside distinctive apparel, souvenirs, books, and local specialties — handy for picking up anything you forgot to pack.
Playroom
Tucked inside the Bow Lounge on Deck 6, this is a dedicated play corner for families traveling with children, giving younger guests their own space to burn off energy during the voyage.
Sauna
Also on Deck 8, next to the changing facilities, with separate sauna rooms for men and women, open 06:00–23:00 — a good way to warm up and unwind after a day on deck.
Hildring Fine Dining (Optional, additional charge)
An intimate five-course tasting menu for an evening that feels a little more special. Reserve a table directly with the onboard crew — spots are limited, so ask early. Suite guests and Havila Gold members enjoy up to two complimentary visits; otherwise, dining here comes at an extra cost.
The heart of onboard dining, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner throughout your journey. You're assigned your own table and time slot — either at the terminal in Bergen before boarding, or on your first visit to Havrand — so there's no scrambling for a seat each mealtime. The à la carte menu changes daily, drawing on local, coastal ingredients that shift character as the ship sails north.
Open from morning until late night, Havly is the easy, flexible choice — Norwegian comfort food, pastries, pizza, burgers, and a warming fish soup. Pay per item, or check whether a café package is available for your sailing. Ideal for grazing outside set mealtimes or keeping your own pace.
The journey begins in Bergen, the gateway to western Norway. Explore the UNESCO-listed Bryggen wharf with its colourful wooden warehouses, ride the Fløibanen funicular for a panoramic city view, or sample fresh catch at the fish market — then board at your leisure and settle into the cabin that will be yours, unpacked, for the next six nights. Enjoy your first full-board dinner onboard as Bergen's harbour lights fade behind you. Accommodation: Havila Voyages cabin — modern Nordic design inspired by the sea and glaciers.
The daily schedule is simple: Wake up naturally, enjoy breakfast (advance booking required). In the morning, you can freely choose to participate in optional shore excursions; the day's activities will be announced in the ship's conference room. Alternatively, you can disembark and explore the ports of call at your leisure. Lunch can be enjoyed back on board (or while still on board), and is included in the price. Choosing to explore local cuisine on shore without using the ship's lunch is considered a forfeit and no refund will be given. Lunch times are fixed. Between lunch and dinner, you can also opt for another optional shore excursion, explore the shore, or simply relax on board. Dinner also requires advance booking. Approximately 1-2 towns will be visited daily; the actual schedule may be adjusted based on sailing conditions.
Bergen
A funicular trip to Mount Fløyen offers a magnificent view of Bergen and its seven mountains.
Bryggen, the oldest part of the city, is filled with well-preserved medieval buildings. Its famous wooden houses are a postcard-perfect scene.
The open-air fish market at the harbor is a popular landmark where visitors can see and taste a dazzling variety of fresh seafood from the North Sea and experience local life.

Your first full day at sea passes through Florø, Måløy and Torvik — wave to the Havila Voyages headquarters along the way. The highlight is Ålesund, famous for its art nouveau architecture of brick buildings threaded with canals. Arriving in the morning at Trondheim, a city founded over a thousand years ago, you'll find Nidaros Cathedral — Norway's national shrine and one of Northern Europe's largest cathedrals — just steps from the harbour. After departure, the ship threads through an archipelago-rich stretch of coast, heading deeper into northern Norway as the scenery turns from gentle fjords to raw wilderness.

Explore the historic city of Trondheim, taking in its charming streets and distinctive architecture along the way. See the famous Nidaros Cathedral and experience the history and culture of this historic Norwegian city at a relaxed pace.

Today brings the voyage's most ceremonial moment — the ship formally crosses the Arctic Circle, marked by an onboard celebration. Along the way you'll pass Bodø, the next largest town in this Arctic landscape and home to Saltstraumen, the world's strongest tidal current. From here, the landscape turns truly Arctic: Norway's largest glacier and sea eagles may all appear along the way. Summer means midnight sun; winter brings near-constant twilight and a real chance of the Northern Lights after dark. By evening you reach Lofoten, where steep peaks and Viking-era fishing villages close out the day.
[Add-on] Meet & Greet Lofoten
Arrive in the Lofoten Islands by cruise and explore the archipelago’s distinctive landscapes with a local guide. Admire the dramatic mountains, coastal scenery and traditional fishing villages, and experience the unique and captivating natural beauty of this region north of the Arctic Circle.

Today the ship sails as far north as land and sea allow. For many travellers, the North Cape plateau — rising dramatically 307 metres from the Arctic Ocean — is the ultimate highlight of the entire Norwegian coastal journey, standing at the northernmost point of mainland Europe with a horizon so vast it reveals the Earth's subtle curve. An optional excursion lets you haul up king crab from the depths by RIB boat, then head ashore to a rustic restaurant for a sumptuous meal of white, juicy crab meat — a fitting way to remember this far-northern landscape.
[Add-on] The North Cape Plateau
Travel to the North Cape Plateau, located at the northernmost point of mainland Europe. Take in sweeping views of the Arctic Ocean and dramatic coastal landscapes, and experience the thrill of reaching the far north of Europe.

FAQs
Who is this voyage suitable for? Is a lot of physical fitness required?
No fitness level is required at all — the voyage itself is done by ship. You can choose to go ashore each day or simply relax onboard and watch the scenery pass by. It's ideal for mature travellers and families who want to see Norway's fjords and Arctic landscapes without daily packing. Optional shore hikes require a normal fitness level, and difficulty is specified for each excursion in advance.
Will I get seasick on the cruise?
To navigate Norway’s narrow fjords and coastal waters, Havila ships are designed to be smaller than typical ocean-going cruise ships. As a result, you may feel more movement during the voyage; travellers who are prone to seasickness are advised to bring motion sickness medication.
When is the best time to sail — summer or winter?
Every seasons have their own appeal. From April to August you'll experience the midnight sun that never sets, with a call at the UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord. From September to March is Northern Lights season, when the Arctic Circle and North Cape take on a starker, more dramatic character — pack warm layers. For aurora chasing, choose a September–March departure; for the midnight-sun fjords, June–July is best.
Can I travel solo? Do I need to pay a single supplement?
Yes, solo travel is welcome. Most cabins are designed for two or more guests, so a single supplement applies for solo occupancy. Shared-cabin options may also be available to reduce costs — please contact our team for current solo pricing.
Do I need to plan my own activities at each port? What language are the shore excursions conducted in?
ou are free to plan your time at each port according to your preferences. Joining a paid shore excursion is not required, and you can also explore the port independently after disembarking. Shore excursions offered by the cruise operator are mainly conducted in English, with Norwegian available on some tours. Chinese-language guiding is not currently available.
