Can I take a train with a stroller or wheelchair?

Last updated:2025/09/03

Yes, you can—and European railways are generally stroller- and wheelchair-friendly! However, there are a few important tips to keep in mind:

| Traveling with a baby:

Most trains allow strollers, and some have designated stroller parking areas  Many countries allow infants under 3 years old to travel for free (rules vary)  Some trains offer family-friendly coaches with extra space for traveling with children  If your stroller is large, try to avoid peak travel times when space can be limited

| Wheelchair users:

Most medium to large stations offer elevators, ramps, and designated seating areas  You can request boarding assistance from the national rail operator in advance

However, smaller or rural stations may not have elevators or accessible platforms—you may need to use stairs to switch platforms. Be sure to check station facilities ahead of time or plan to board at more accessible stations.

! Pro tip: If your journey involves multiple transfers, try to avoid non-accessible stations and allow extra time for connections to reduce stress.
